An East Sussex start-up with its base near Eastbourne Station has secured substantial investment to bring hyperfast full-fibre broadband to Eastbourne and then on out to Hastings.
Billed as the most profound infrastructure advancement to benefit residents and businesses in recent years, Eastbourne’s Lightning Fibre will build, install and operate the new full-fibre network, starting with Eastbourne and then Hastings.
The new hyperfast network will deliver multi-gigabit-capability of 10,000 megabits (10 gigabits) per second to over 100,000 homes and businesses in the area. According to a recent report, the average speed users get in Hastings, from the aged copper infrastructure, is just 22.3 Mbps*.
Ben Ferriman, CEO of Lightning Fibre, said: “With the investment we can now accelerate our build programme in Eastbourne and Hastings. Only 14 per cent of UK properties have full fibre optic cables running all the way from the green cabinet on the street to their front doors, so it’s a very exciting time for our coastal towns and will ultimately make Hastings a gigabit-town.
“By providing 100 percent full fibre, 10Gbps capable broadband, in download and upload, we are putting Eastbourne and Hastings at the forefront of the UK broadband revolution and giving our community the connectivity support it needs and deserves. This is big step towards levelling up Hastings.”
The network is already available in certain parts of Eastbourne and will now be rolled out at speed to the rest of Eastbourne and Hastings, followed by East Sussex generally. To check availability for your postcode, or to register your interest, visit www.lightningfibre.co.uk
